About

Melissa Humber is a contemporary landscape painter based on the Scottish island of Mull. She was born in 1990 in Beverley (North east of Britain) but grew up in various other places. Eager for independence at the age of 16, Melissa became self-employed - selling her paintings & designing bespoke clothing has enabled her to forge an incredibly creative life.

Before moving to Mull in 2021, Melissa lived in Northumberland, where whilst running her own artisan clothing business, she dedicated three years to formally studying Fine art, specialising in Jungian theories and Surrealism. Since graduating in 2019, she continues to focus on her own artistic development, whilst delving deeper into her research interests: local folklore, depth psychology, ancient astrology and alchemical symbols - all of which seep into her work.

The wild, atmospheric and surreal nature of the Scottish islands surrounding her is providing endless inspiration for her latest series of emotive landscape paintings. Her work is often described as joyful, haunting, sensitively detailed, capable of evoking memories and celebrates the dreamlike qualities of the Hebrides.

Melissa’s work is currently on display in the following local shops and galleries:

Old Postoffice in Lochbuie

An Tobar in Tobermory.
