ARTIST STATEMENT

Melissa Humber sketching in Uisken.jpeg

Well, I was born in Yorkshire but grew up in various other places. I have been dedicated to producing art since childhood. At 16, I became self employed - selling my artwork & bespoke garments online ever since, forging an incredibly creative but precarious life for myself. I now have well over a decade of professional pattern cutting / dressmaking experience, I launched my first collection of made to measure womenswear in 2011, since then it's been a pleasure to make thousands of bespoke garments for various special events and weddings across the world. In 2016, I felt called to dedicate more time painting, I decided to formally study Fine art in Northumberland, graduating with a BA and establishing my studio practice in 2019.

In 2021, I relocated to the Isle of Mull - I enjoy exploring, painting outdoors and researching the folklore of the unforgettable Scottish islands surrounding me. It's been wonderful to sell my landscape paintings and art prints in the local area, my artwork is currently on display in the lovely Old Postoffice in Lochbuie. and in the gallery of the An Tobar in Tobermory. I launched an online shop: ’in the Hebrides’ specifically to promote and sell art prints and postcards. This portfolio site is a place to display available original paintings and document my previous artwork (and clothing designs) in a chronological manner. Please use the contact form below to say hello, enquire about a specific piece or to discuss a commission.

I look forward to hearing from you
